2018 Technology Bootcamp Presenter Biographies

Miriam Airington-Fisher practices criminal defense in Virginia state and federal courts and complex removal defense in Federal immigration courts. She has successfully defended clients against civil commitment under the Sexually Violent Predator Civil Commitment Act and against The Hague Convention on International Child Abduction. Miriam handles appellate and post- conviction representation, including direct appeals, writs of actual innocence, and petitions for writ of habeas corpus. She argues cases in Virginia appellate courts and federal courts, including the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Miriam is a member of the Federal Bar Association, Virginia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and her local bar associations. Miriam presents at legal seminars on topics related to immigration and criminal law, and is a regular guest speaker at the University of Richmond School of Law.

Pam Bishop is the principal at Commonwealth Litigation Support Services, Inc., in Ashland, Va. She retired four years ago after 37 years of Federal service, having worked at the U.S. District Court, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, and the Office of the Federal Public Defender. Pam specializes in large fraud/financial cases and Federal death penalty cases, including high profile terrorist cases.

Pam has provided litigation support on 11 Federal death penalty cases in Virginia, West Virginia, Louisiana, and Massachusetts, and just completed an eight-week gang prosecution focused on the Nine Trey Gangstas in Norfolk, Va. She is currently the E-Discovery Manager on U.S. v. Waleed bin Atash with the Department of Defense, Military Commission Defense Organization. Pam lectures on a regular basis at conferences, training programs, and webinars on paralegal skills, fraud/financial investigations, document analysis, and e-discovery.

Caroline Fox is a Virginia attorney whose practice focuses on creative small- to medium-sized businesses. Her previous life in public relations and advertising helps her understand clients’ work, struggles, and concerns in unique ways.

Caroline is a frequent speaker and educator on legal topics relevant to small businesses, and travels across the country to lecture. Caroline makes a point to collaborate with other attorneys. She serves as Of Counsel for Connors Brenke PLLC in Christiansburg, Va., for litigation matters and assists other firms with trademark prosecution. Caroline also founded The Engaged Legal Collective, an educational resource for creative wedding and event professionals.

David J.K. Morgenstern, L’12, currently serves as a consultant in Washington, D.C., and has worked as auto mechanic, special needs teacher, bio-weapons and explosives investigator, Virginia Circuit Court clerk, and a researcher for the Supreme Court’s federal sentencing guidelines. He has provided technical training and litigation support for the SEC, FTC, DOJ, the United States v. Governor McDonnell, and the AT&T/Time Warner merger.

David developed policy for the American Psychological Association and the Social Security Administration, started a distributed solar power company in the Palestinian West Bank, and created a non-profit to provide medical services for refugees.

Roger V. Skalbeck is a Professor of Law and Associate Dean of Library and Information Services at the University of Richmond School of Law. He teaches legal research, applied practice technology, and copyright law. Roger is a frequent presenter on legal technology at national conferences, a member of the CALI Board of Directors, a member of the Virginia Access to Justice Commission’s Committee on Self-Represented Litigants, and a member of the Legal Scholarship Advisory Board for LawArXiv.
